It has been more than a decade that TUSEF sees the John F. Kennedy Foundation of Thailand for Thai-American Friendship, (the JFK Foundation) support Fulbright scholar(s).
This year, the JFK Foundation supports two U.S. scholars (for the year 2005-2006) in the amount of Baht 500,000 at its recent Board meeting on June 23, 2005.
The JFK Foundation has continuously given its generous monetary contribution to TUSEF to fully/partially fund a number of U.S. scholars coming to teach/conduct research as well as curriculum development at Thai universities in every year.
TUSEF would like to express its most sincere thanks and gratitude to the JFK Foundation for its continued support to the Fulbright Program. The kind contribution from the JFK Foundation through all these years has been significant to the strengthening of academic cooperation and relations of U.S. Fulbrighters, TUSEF, and partner universities.
The JFK Foundation was set up as a memorial to the principles promoted by the slain President during his lifetime. H.E. Dr. Thanat Khoman, then Thai Minister of Foreign Affairs, using his own private funds, established the John F. Kennedy Foundation of Thailand. Dr. Thanat’s efforts later received support and encouragement from the Thai government and the American government. Officially founded on December 2, 1963, the organization’s title was amended on August 30, 1984 to “The John F. Kennedy Foundation of Thailand for Thai-American Friendship”. In addition to serving as a memorial to the late President, who had actively encouraged the educational and cultural development of youth worldwide, the Foundation’s primary objective is the expression of friendship between Thailand and the United States, two countries which support similar ideals and principles and which have enjoyed a long history of close cooperation. |
