Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program
|
| |
This program will include coursework and intensive
training in teaching methodologies, lesion planning,
and teaching strategies for the participants home
environment, as well as the use of computers for
internet, word processing, and as teaching tools.
The 6-week program will also include a 2-week
internship at a secondary school to actively engage
participants with American teachers and students.
Trips to U.S. cultural sties and academic support
will be provided for participants throughout the
program.
The trip will include visits to local schools and
parent committees, non-governmental organizations
(NGOs) and local government offices.
The fellowship provides J-1 visa support, a
pre-departure orientation held in participants home
country, round-trip airfare to and within the U.S.,
a Welcome Orientation in Washington D.C., academic
program fees, housing (generally shared with other
program fellows) and meals, accident and sickness
coverage, transportation to the internship school
(if necessary), an book-professional development
allowance, a closing seminar hosted by one of TEA
host universities in the U.S., the opportunity to
host a U.S. teacher for two weeks, and the
opportunity to apply for follow-on campus. |

Eligibility
Be citizens of and residents in Thailand
Not exceeding 55 years of age
Be secondary-level, full-time teaching department
heads with at least 5 or more years of classroom
teaching experience in either English, Social
Studies, Math or Sciences
Hold a masters degree or higher in any fields
Have high English proficiency
Have an approval for a leave of absence from the
school/institutions
Continue teaching for at least five years after
completion of the program
Educational Seminars
Program for School Administrators
The program provides an opportunity for Thai
secondary school directors
and department
heads to work with U.S. partners on issues of mutual
interest to their communities, schools, and students
with a goal of strengthening local school systems.
Selected Thai administrators will participate in a
workshop in Washington D.C. followed by a ten-day
shadow and observational visit. U.S. administrators
will participate in a reciprocal shadow and
observation the program in Thailand in the summer.
Exchange may focus on educational leadership,
strategic planning and professional development for
teachers, school and community relations, curriculum
development, active learning, classroom management,
teaching English as a Second Language, volunteerism,
and civic responsibility. Participants will be
eligible to participate in alumni activities that
foster communication between Thai and American
schools.
Grant will cover international round-trip ticket,
domestic transportation, meals, accommodation,
orientation and other necessary expenses plus
medical insurance in the U.S. Please note that this
program does not allow participants to bring any
accompany person abroad.
Eligibility
Be citizens of and residents in Thailand, and

groups (English, Thai, Math, Social Studies,
Science, Art, Physical Education and Career
Foundation Subjects) with at least 3 years of

school/institutions
Will be able to host an U.S. teacher for 2 weeks in
the U.S.
Fulbright alumni are ineligible for this program

Study of the U.S. Institutes Program for Secondary
Educators and Faculty Members
GENERAL
INFORMATION/PROVISIONS:
The Study of the United States Institutes Program is
designed as rigorous six-week academic seminars
whose immediate purpose is to enhance teaching about
the United States in school, college and university
classrooms abroad.
The program will include approximately 30 days of
residency at the host university campus. During this
time there will be morning and afternoon
lecture/discussion sessions as well as study trips
to nearby areas. Longer trips to at least two
different regions will take place during the last 10
days of the institute. The scholars will be exposed
to a variety of teaching methods and research
resources aimed at helping them to develop their
curricula. While individual research is not a
primary objective of the program, access to the
resources and facilities at the host university will
be available to the participants.
Each scholar will be provided all institute costs
covering international and domestic travel, lodging
and meals, allowances for cultural activities, book
and materials allowances, incidental allowances and
health insurance. Dependents cannot accompany
scholars on any part of the program and scholars
will not receive a separate allowance to support
dependents.
CANDIDATE
QUALIFICATIONS:
A candidate must:
1) be a Thai citizen in good health,
between the ages of 30-50;
2) hold a masters degree or
higher;
3) be a highly-motivated and experienced
university faculty lecturer
who assumes responsibility for teaching and
curriculum development in the relevant disciplines;
has the ability and willingness to incorporate
information about U.S. culture, society, history,
and institutions in his/her teaching and
professional work. Candidates are expected to have a
basic understanding and knowledge in the related
fields;
4) be an experience professional
with little or no prior
experience in the U.S. whose home institution
is seeking (a) to introduce U.S. studies into its
curriculum, (b) to develop new courses in the
subject of the institute, or (c) to enhance and
update existing courses on the United States;
5) demonstrate oral and
written English language fluency. Scholars
will be expected to handle substantial reading
assignments in English and to be full and active
participants in all seminars and panel discussions.
6) while senior faculty lecturers are eligible,
mid-career faculty lecturers who are likely to be
comfortable with campus life and an active six-week
program may be given priority consideration.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE:
Applicants who are interested in applying for one of
these specific projects must submit the completed
application, one letter of recommendation and
supporting documents (a copy of academic
transcripts, a resume, a letter of recommendation
and the standard test score report, if applicable)

The final selection will be made by the Study of the
U.S. Branch, Office of Academic Exchange Programs,
U.S. Department of State in Washington, D.C. As a
general rule, the Study of the U.S. Branch will not
select more than one scholar per country to
participate in each institute program.
