Thai Graduate Scholarship (TGS) Program

Pathway to Endless Possibilities

I believe every Fulbright experience is unique, offering opportunities that go beyond academics.

Through the Fulbright Thai Graduate Scholarship,

I gained valuable local and global network,

connecting with talented Thai peers as well as Fulbrighters from around the world, which broadened my perspective and exposed me to diverse cultures and fields.

Fulbrighters are also exceptional storytellers, inspiring those around them while sharing their experiences.

For me, Fulbright is more than a scholarship – it is a supportive family and a source of inspiration for both Thai society and the global community.

TGS FAQs

1. Is the Fulbright grant fully funded?

In most cases, the TGS program provides partial financial support.

2. What does the Fulbright grant cover?

The grant is paid as a lump sum in tranches by IIE. Grantees must first use it for tuition, books, and required supplies. Any remaining funds may be used for living expenses and university health insurance.

3. Do I need university acceptance before applying?

No. Selection happens before placement. If you already have an offer, you must defer it. Admission does not give you an advantage.

4. What kind of commitment does the Fulbright Program require?

No obligations with Fulbright Thailand but Fulbrighters are subject to

2-year residency requirements, meaning you have to come back and work in Thailand for at least 2 years.

5. With the 2-year residency requirement, can I pursue a doctoral degree right after my master’s?

Yes. If you choose to continue with a doctoral degree, the 2-year home residency requirement begins after you complete your doctorate.

6. Which universities can I apply to?

You may apply to any U.S. university. For placement, IIE will apply to

up to 4 universities for master’s candidates and 5 universities for doctoral candidates. You may apply to additional universities on your own.

7. Can I apply if I already have a master’s degree?

Yes, but you must explain why you wish to pursue a second master’s degree. You may also apply for a Ph.D. if you meet the qualifications.

8. Can I apply for a Ph.D. that includes a master’s degree?

No. You must choose either a master’s or a doctoral program.

9. Do I still need an English proficiency test score if I studied abroad or in an international program?

Yes. All non-native English speakers must submit an English proficiency test score.

10. Is the IELTS 6.5 required overall or per skill?

Minimum overall: 6.5 (master’s), 7.5 (doctoral). No per-skill minimum, but scores should fit your field of study. IELTS One Skill Retake is not accepted.

11. My bachelor’s GPA is 2.99. Can I apply?

Master’s: No. The minimum GPA requirement is 3.00. Doctoral: Yes, if your master’s GPA is 3.50 or higher.

12. Do I need an official transcript at time of application?

You may submit a scanned official transcript first. An official copy is required if invited for an interview.

13. Can dual-degree graduates (Thai + foreign degree) apply?

Yes with one degree received from a Thai university.

14. Can recommendation letters be in Thai?

No. All materials must be in English. Thai letters must include a certified English translation.

15. Can YSEALI alumni apply?

Yes, after completing the 2-year home residency requirement.

16. Can I re-apply with the same application?

Not recommended. Your essays and writing sample should be updated.

17. Can I get alumni contacts?

No. For privacy reasons, alumni contact information cannot be disclosed.‍
